Hello, I'm Sue Schofield, an Integrative Counsellor, based in Horsham, West Sussex.
I understand that looking for a counsellor can be daunting and I aim to make it as simple as possible.
There are many reasons why you may find yourself here; you may not yet be sure yourself what these reasons are. What you do know is that you feel unhappy, anxious, stuck or unfulfilled and are looking for some support.
This is where I come in. I'm here to listen, really listen to everything you are feeling and experiencing. I provide you with a confidential space, free of judgement, for you to explore whatever has brought you to counselling.
I offer counselling to adults and young adults, on a one to one basis, specialising in a relational approach. We all face struggles at various points in our life and you do not need to go through them alone.
We are all unique and I believe that each person will need different things from counselling. My integrative, person-centred approach, means that we will work in a way that best suits you and the areas of your life that you wish to explore.
I am here to walk alongside you and support you as you learn more about yourself - I believe that an increased awareness of ourselves can open up doors that lead to choices and changes; the counselling relationship is at the heart of the therapeutic work.
Sometimes we can feel overwhelmed and confused by our emotions, not knowing where to start. Everyone is different and counselling evolves differently with each client. I integrate Person-Centred Therapy with third-wave CBT, such as Compassion-Focused Counselling and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. For those that wish, I also integrate creative counselling approaches.
Finding the right therapist is vital to successful therapy. How do you know if I'm the right person? It's a big question - you will be dedicating time and resources and therefore want to make sure it's a good fit. Feel free to explore my site, find out more about me, how I work and what I can offer you.
If you'd like to, contact me for a free informal chat to see if you feel we're a good fit for each other and I can answer any other questions you may have.
Sometimes the hardest step is the very first one. You can message me to book a time for a chat, to see if joining me on your counselling journey feels like something you would like to try.
Face to face counselling in my counselling room provides a safe space for you to leave any masks at the door and be yourself with me alongside you. I am totally non-judgemental. It provides a time for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, relationships, life events...and to come to a greater self-awareness and therefore self-empowerment. We look out onto my garden in a cosy, safe, comfortable space.
We all know that life can be busy and it's not always easy to make it to in-person therapy sessions. I provide counselling by telephone, Teams and Zoom. Sometimes people prefer this because of their busy lives. Others simply find it their preferred way of accessing counselling. The therapeutic hour is an hour to focus on your own needs, difficulties, range of emotions, thoughts, hopes and dreams.
Being out in nature and green spaces is good for us. Walking is also good for us. There are many research papers that show this to be true.
Counselling as Walk and Talk can bring together counselling, the beauty of nature and the healing of walking. We will not be doing a fast route-march since talking, listening and seeing fresh perspectives and insights is at the heart of counselling.
I have researched Walk and Talk counselling and love the informality, the shared jigsaw of experiences that we will build up over the seasons, and the ease of communication that many experience.
